Grenache are a medium to rich bodied red grape variety grown right here on the estate. Mildura has the ideal climate with hot and dry conditions needed.
Interestingly both Spain and Italy lay claim to Grenache however the exact origins are unknown. Often used within a blend, Grenache although grown often was hidden away in the background. Fast forward to today and Grenache are now one of the most widely planted red grape varieties throughout the world.
Featuring a berry and pepper flavour profile, it has a high alcohol content and is therefore an important grape for not only red wines but rose or fortified wines as well. Our Grenache grapes are estate grown on very low cropping bush vines, which has an ideal climate for Grenache. The vines are hand pruned over winter, bunch thinned in summer to reduce the crop, then hand-picked at harvest in late summer. Water is applied sparingly, to ensure low vigour, and small berries with concentrated flavour and colour.
Why not try a bottle of the Vanden Estate Golden Boy Grenache.
